Most of the 2024 recruiting class has already arrived on campus as early enrollees. Those players will go through the grueling Penn State football winter workouts and participate in Spring Ball. But that doesn’t stop the evaluation process for the 2024 recruiting class. Cooper Cousins and Jon Mitchell, two of the 2024 class members who are already on campus, have seen significant recruiting ranking increases recently.

Cooper Cousins is deemed the class leader for the 2024 recruiting class. That’s due to the fact that he was the first commit in the cycle and he stayed true to Penn State football throughout his recruiting process. During National Signing Day James Franklin referred to Cousins as “low-maintenance” which is rare in today’s society.

He recently impressed at the All-American Bowl where he had many national recruiting experts raving about his technique, power, and versatility on the offensive line.

Now, he has received a significant boost to his overall recruiting ranking. According to 247sports as of January 22nd, Cousins has jumped from the 122nd overall player in the cycle to the 53rd in the 2024 recruiting class. He has also raised in true ranking from a 93 rated four-star to a 96 overall rated four-star.

Jon Mitchell and his path to the field in 2024

The Penn State football team needed to sign additional depth in the transfer portal in the secondary. They did just that by landing AJ Harris and Jalen Kimber from the portal. However, the 2024 commit who is currently on campus preparing for Spring Ball is Jon Mitchell.

During National Signing Day, Terry Smith mentioned that Mitchell would be needed immediately. Now, Mitchell has seen a boost in his recruiting ranking as well. On January 22nd, 247sports has him listed as the 125th overall player and he has jumped to 116th overall. He has also increased his overall ranking from a 93 to a 94 as well.
