Former Penn State football defensive end Chop Robinson knows what it takes to be one of the best edge rushers in college football. That will be on full display at the end of April when Robinson will be selected as a top draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. But he returned to the Nittany Lions on Saturday, this time as a letterman. Robinson was seen speaking with Abdul Carter on the sidelines, who is going through a transition of his own from linebacker to defensive end. Carter explained the advice that Robinson shared after the Blue-White Game.

Abdul Carter was already known as one of the best linebackers in college football. But a position change in 2024 will allow him to show off his versatility on the field. For the first time since he joined the Penn State football team in 2022, Carter lined up at defensive end for the Nittany Lions during the Blue-White Game.

In between series, he spoke with Chop Robinson who is preparing for the NFL Draft. But what was the message shared from Robinson to Carter?

Chop [Robinson], we always had a back and forth about competing about who was the better pass rusher. Who has a better get off the ball, so we like to chop it up there. But he was just telling me to stay focused. Don’t just go out there and play for you but also try to make others better around you.”

That’s something he did playing with the rest of the team last year just made people better around him. I was asking him tips and tricks of how to do things better. Especially, after moving to defensive end he told me to call him anytime.”

Who is the better defensive end?

Confidence is key in college football. While Robinson and Carter have a healthy relationship and are able to help each other get better, Carter was asked who is the better pass rusher?

Carter replied, “I’ll always go with myself.”

During his Penn State football career, Chop Robinson accounted for 8.5 sacks in two seasons. Carter has accumulated 11.5 sacks while playing as an outside linebacker. He will get the chance to add to that count in 2024 when the season kicks off with the Nittany Lions visiting West Virginia in September.
