Recently, Penn State football quarterback Drew Allar has been mentioned as one of the more impactful players in college football this season. With how college football has been changing over the past several years, every team needs to have high-level quarterback play to reach their goals. Even teams like Iowa and Wisconsin have to evolve with the sport as they hit the transfer portal to beef up their QB rooms. But even with those added players where does Drew Allar rank among them?

Is Drew Allar a top-five quarterback in the Big Ten in 2023?

Headed into the 2023 season, the Big Ten conference is the year of the unknowns when it comes to quarterbacks in the conference. Outside of J.J. McCarthy and Taulia Tagovailoa, the rest of the quarterbacks in the Big Ten are either first-year starters or players who have transferred from other schools and will be first-year starters with their new team.

Big Ten Network analyst Anthony Herron provided his list of The Big 5 aka his top five quarterbacks ahead of the 2023 season. In order he ranked J.J McCarthy, Taulia Tagovailoa, Cade McNamara, Tanner Mordecai, and Drew Allar in his top five. This just goes to show how much hype Allar is receiving this offseason but also how high his ceiling can be.

Drew Allar can be a top 3 QB in the Big Ten

If Drew Allar can go out and beat Ohio State on the road or will his team to victory against Michigan in November he will be considered a top-three quarterback in this conference. The projections for the Penn State football leader paired with his 6’5 243 frame puts him into the conversation as one of the more physically gifted players in the Big Ten this fall.
