Penn State's Chop Robinson (44) celebrates with his teammates after recording a tackle for loss in the second half of an NCAA football game against Rutgers Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, in State College, Pa. The Nittany Lions won, 27-6.

In the summer of 2022, the Penn State football team learned that they had landed a massive prospect in the transfer portal. Someone who has the potential to be a future 1st round NFL Draft pick. That player is star defensive end Chop Robinson. He had to make a difficult decision to leave the University of Maryland and take a chance that would change his life. But ultimately it was the best decision Robinson could have made, coming to Penn State to play for James Franklin.

Chop Robinson explains how Penn State changed his career

It’s never easy to leave your home state, but that’s what Chop Robinson needed to do to take his football career to the next level. In two seasons with the Penn State football team, that decision has paid off big time for Robinson. In 2023 Robinson has collected 12 tackles, 4 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. And as he spoke to the media on Tuesday afternoon he opened up about his decision to come to Penn State and play for James Franklin.

Chop Robinson said, “As a man, it definitely helped me. Like Coach [James] Franklin messaged me to be 10 minutes early to meetings. Just being on time for things and stuff like that. It definitely helped me with my mindset because I didn’t really think that was a big deal before I came here being so early especially 10 minutes. So, as far as my football career, just having the guys, the chemistry, and just being developed by Coach Deion [Barnes] and Coach [John] Scott when he was here, it has just been a blessing. You have to use your hands a lot. So, I’ve picked up on a lot of little things that have helped me in my career.”

It’s safe to say Robinson made the best decision possible for his development and his career. He had to deal with adversity this season after an injury, but when he’s been on the field he’s one of the most dominant players in college football.
