The Penn State football team will be searching for a new special teams coordinator as Stacy Collins has decided to head back to Boise State. The Nittany Lions have dealt with a good amount of coaching turnover over the past several months. After the firing of offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich in November, and defensive coordinator Manny Diaz accepting the Duke head coach position in December, now Stacy Collins will have James Franklin replace all three coordinators in the same offseason.

Penn State football loses special teams coordinator

Stacy Collins has been coaching in college football since 1998. He brought experience and wisdom to the Nittany Lions but that also came with success. During his time as the Boise State special teams coordinator the Broncos ranked 7th in the country in blocked punts. After two seasons with Penn State, Collins has decided to head back to Boise State first confirmed by On3.

While Collins was with the Penn State football team he helped long snapper Chris Stoll win the Patrick Mannelly Award, given to the nation’s best long snapper. He also was the key driving force behind the kick return success from Nick Singleton in 2022 and the punt return success from Daequan Hardy in 2023.

It wasn’t just special teams

For Stacy Collins, it wasn’t just special teams he also coached outside linebackers and nickel cornerbacks. An area that Penn State has produced at a very high level. The success of Abdul Carter, Curtis Jacobs, and Daequan Hardy was all due to what Collins helped coach at Penn State. Now, the Nittany Lions will be searching for their 3rd major coordinator change of the offseason.
