The curtain closed on the 2023 regular season for the Penn State football team last Friday night. The Nittany Lions put on a dominant display of football crushing Michigan State 42-0 in Detriot. Now, after a wild weekend of college football the final regular season College Football Playoff rankings have just been released on ESPN. Where did James Franklin and his team end up?

BREAKING: Penn State climbs into the top 10 of the CFP rankings

The Penn State football team entered the final week of the regular season ranked as the No. 11 team in the country. But after the results of this past weekend, Nittany Nation was optimistic that their ranking would increase. The biggest change over the weekend was Louisville who entered the weekend as the No. 10 team in the country lost in their annual rivalry game to an unranked Kentucky team ahead of their ACC Championship this weekend. Now, ESPN has released the regular season finale of College Football Playoff rankings. Penn State has earned the No. 10 spot this week as the Nittany Lions have made their way back into the top ten.

How high can Penn State go?

The biggest piece to consider with the Nittany Lions moving forward is how high can they increase their ranking. Well, that will depend specifically on which bowl game PSU will receive. That will become public on Sunday around 2:30 pm when the bowl games will be listed. Nittany Nation is hopeful that Penn State will receive a New Year’s Six Bowl bid, but not everyone agrees that they will. In fact, Andy Staples from On3 has the Nittany Lions on the outside looking in when it comes to NY6 bowl games. If the Nittany Lions can land a signature game and earn a signature win, they should finish this season inside the top 10. James Franklin is hopeful he can secure another signature win this season.
