Ahead of the Blue-White game this weekend, James Franklin and his Nittany Lions are one of three Big Ten programs to be ranked among the top 10 2024 recruiting classes. While the current Penn State recruiting class trails the Michigan Wolverines (3) and the Ohio State Buckeyes (2), the class is still young, and the Nittany Lions are trending in a great direction with several top-ranked prospects. The Penn State Nittany Lions recently became heavy favorites to land top 50 EDGE recruit Xavier Gilliam of Wilde Lake High School in Maryland.

2024 Penn State recruiting class could add top 50 EDGE recruit

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Xavier Gilliam is heavily favored to wind up in the Blue and White, with Maryland and Wake Forrest sitting in the next two spots. Penn State football has around a 94% chance to land Gilliam; earlier this week, recruiting analyst Ryan Snyder made an official prediction for the Nittany Lions to land the talented 2024 EDGE recruit.

According to the 247 Sports rankings, Gilliam is ranked as the No. 44 EDGE in the class and the No. 17 player in the state of Maryland. His 6-foot-3, 260-pound frame makes him a sizable opponent off the edge; with the proper coaching, his frame and physicality make him a threat to any opposing offensive line. Xavier Gilliam would unquestionably be a great addition to the 2024 Penn State recruiting class.

Where does the class stand right now?

After several recent commitments, the 2024 Penn State recruiting class sits at No. 8 overall in both the 247 Sports and the 247 Composite rankings.

Penn State football boasts eight hard commits thus far: six four-stars and two three-stars. While Gilliam is not the highest-ranked EDGE target on Penn State’s list, he has the potential to be a standout in State College, and could make an incredible addition to James Franklin’s current recruiting class.
