Football is in the air again in Happy Valley, with the Penn State Nittany Lions returning to the practice field one month ahead of the 2025 season opener. As the countdown to kickoff marches on, we are learning more about what the seven home games inside Beaver Stadium will look like this fall.
On Wednesday, Penn State football released its full slate of game themes for the upcoming year. Of course, the marquee home matchup of the season, September 27’s clash with Oregon, was already revealed to be the program’s annual White Out game earlier this summer. A rematch of last year’s Big Ten Championship, the game has a high probability of becoming only the second top-five matchup inside Beaver Stadium in the previous quarter-century.
Wednesday’s reveal also confirmed previous reporting that the university’s homecoming game will be on October 11 versus Northwestern. As in years past, the Blue and White will wear their “Generations of Greatness” throwback uniforms for the homecoming matchup. The game will also feature a stripe out of Beaver Stadium.
Other highlights include the Nittany Lions’ two November contests. The program will hold its third and final all-stadium theme – the helmet stripe game – when Indiana comes to Happy Valley on November 8. The Hoosiers will be looking to follow up on their playoff appearance from last fall with a strong year two under Curt Cignetti. Penn State will then welcome back letterman Matt Rhule and Nebraska for Senior Day on November 22.

Construction crews working to finish temporary stadium facilities ahead of 2025 season opener
The other storyline that will impact the aesthetics of fall Saturdays in State College this year is the ongoing renovations at Beaver Stadium. Last week, Penn State shared the progress construction crews have made this summer, currently working to install temporary seating and broadcast booths before the August 30 home opener.
“Beaver Stadium will look a little bit different. I think you guys know we’re in the middle of a stadium project that will not be done this year,” James Franklin said at Big Ten Media Days. “We’ll have another year, we’ll have to get through with that, but we expect Beaver Stadium to be rocking like it always is.”
