SPRINGFIELD, MA — After leading the Penn State Nittany Lions to a 19-12 (10-10 Big Ten) record in 2022-23, the nation’s eyes are upon a standout at PSU. On Monday, a Penn State basketball star was named a top-5 finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, which is given to the nation’s top point guard.

Penn State basketball star named a top-5 finalist for PG of the year

Last week, Penn State basketball star Jalen Pickett was named to the Wooden Award National Ballot and the Oscar Robertson Trophy Late Season Watch List. Now, Pickett has made another notable list; this time, it’s the Bob Cousy Award finalist list for the best point guard in the country.

Pickett is the only player in the country averaging at least 18 points (18.0) per game, seven rebounds per game (7.3) and seven assists (7.0) per game. This is important because only one men’s college basketball player in the last 30 years (since 1992-93 season) has finished the season averaging 18/7/7: Michigan State’s Denzel Valentine.

Penn State basketball star Jalen Pickett is averaging 7.0 assists per game and a 3.27 assist-to-turnover ratio, both rank top-5 in the nation.

Pickett makes Bob Cousy Award watch list ahead of Big Ten tournament

This week, Penn State basketball will take on the Illinois Fighting Illini in round one of the Big Ten tournament in Chicago, Illinois. If the Nittany Lions’ star guard can lead them to just four wins in a row, Penn State will bring home its first-ever Big Ten title in men’s basketball. Additionally, the Lions will earn some much-needed victories and improve to 23-12 (14-10 Big Ten) heading into the NCAA tournament later this month.
