On Sunday, it was reported that Penn State football head coach James Franklin is going after an NFL assistant to add to his staff. According to Football Scoop, the Nittany Lions are locked on to Chicago Bears assistant defensive line coach Justin Hinds to fill their defensive line coaching vacancy.

Reports indicate James Franklin is targeting NFL assistant

Last week, James Franklin and his Penn State Nittany Lions lost John Scott Jr. — the team’s long-time defensive line coach who saw a great deal of success during his time in the Blue and White. Scott will be on the NFL sidelines this fall with the Detroit Lions; and in-turn, Franklin is going after an NFL assistant to fill the vacancy.

Who is Justin Hind?

Here is an excerpt from Football Scoop’s recent report on Penn State’s interest in Justin Hind of the Chicago Bears:

“The 2022 campaign was Hinds’s first in Chicago. He was Western Carolina’s defensive coordinator in 2021, and prior to that developed two All-MAC D-linemen as Central Michigan’s defensive line coach from 2019-20. Troy Hairston II was the MAC’s co-defensive player of the year for a 2020 season that saw him register 5.5 sacks and 12 TFLs. Hinds played at Rowan University and has coached defensive linemen for Wagner, Valdosta State, and Lafayette.”

According to Football Scoop, a decision on Hind to Penn State is expected to come sometime this week as spring ball draws nearer.
