BREAKING: Penn State football misses on top 10 DL to SEC newcomer

Penn State football is loading up on official visits for the summer to grow the 2025 recruiting class and getting a visitor list set for the annual Blue-White game this Saturday. During this event, the Nittany Lions have the opportunity to host several prospects and show off a game-like atmosphere. One of the players that was scheduled to visit this weekend was top 2025 DL Trent Wilson. But days before his originally planned trip to Happy Valley, Wilson has decided to take his name off the board, committing to Oklahoma on Wednesday evening.

Top 10 DL in 2025 chooses Oklahoma over Penn State football

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Trent Wilson is a four-star prospect From Upper Marlboro (Maryland). Wilson is listed as a 6-3, 260-pound defensive lineman in the 2025 recruiting class. On3 ranks him as the No. 1 player in Maryland, and the No. 9 defensive lineman in the cycle.

Wilson has a strong connection to Penn State football, visiting Happy Valley six times during his recruitment. But now, he has made a decision on where he will play his college football. Wilson narrowed his college choices down to four schools on April 1. On Wednesday evening, Wilson made his commitment to Oklahoma official.

It was a tough break for Penn State, given all of the time invested into recruiting Wilson and the chance the Nittany Lions expected to have with him this weekend. In February, James Franklin and his staff had Wilson locked in for a visit for the Blue-White Game on Saturday.

Nittany Lions are without a defensive line commit in 2025

It’s one thing to miss on a commitment. But it’s another when it’s a position of need for Penn State. In the 2025 recruiting class, the Nittany Lions are yet to secure a defensive line commitment. That will likely change over the next few months, with several key prospects set to return to campus for their official visits.

But at the end of the day, Deion Barnes and James Franklin need to hunker down to find that defensive line anchor, a position that the Nittany Lions have recruited inconsistently over the past several cycles. But it’s still early, and there’s room for optimism.

Currently, Penn State holds the No. 7 recruiting class in 2025, per 247Sports. Oklahoma sits ahead of Penn State at No. 6 nationally.
