The Big Ten East is one of the hottest divisions in college football right now when it comes to recruiting the 2024 class. Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State are all thriving right now and landing some top-ranked talent; on Friday, the Nittany Lions became the third Big Ten program to break the top 10 in the 247 Sports recruiting rankings — the 2024 Penn State football recruiting class now ranks 9th in the nation.
2024 Penn State football recruiting class breaks the top 10
On Friday evening, the Nittany Lions added a massive player to their 2024 recruiting class: four-star athlete Qunton Martin, the No. 1 player in Pennsylvania. Martin’s commitment was enormous for several reasons — mainly, it should kick off a series of significant commitments heading into the summer — one of which being that the 2024 Penn State football recruiting class shot up in the team rankings to No. 9 overall and No. 3 in the Big Ten.
So far, only the Michigan Wolverines (2) and Ohio State Buckeyes (4) boast better recruiting classes than the 2024 Penn State football recruiting class, which currently boasts seven commits. Of Penn State’s seven committed players, six are four-star prospects, and one is a three-star.
Nittany Lions must maintain this momentum
While Penn State football is one of three Big Ten programs to break the top 10 in the 247 Sports recruiting rankings, the Nittany Lions are still outside the top 5, unlike Michigan and Ohio State. If Penn State wants to remain competitive with the top teams in the conference and win Big Ten Championships like its counterparts, keeping up to speed with the Wolverines and Buckeyes will be essential.
Being in the top 10 in April is incredible. However, it is all about where the class ends and how many blue chip recruits Penn State football can land — if the Nittany Lions remain persistent throughout the spring and summer, this 2024 recruiting class could shape up to be something special.
On Friday, Penn State football received a series of good news, including that James Franklin’s team is currently expected to land an ESPN five-star quarterback in the 2024 cycle, so there is no lack of momentum in State College right now.
