State College — On Friday, James Franklin landed one of the crown jewels of the 2024 cycle. Penn State secured a commitment from Quinton Martin, the top player in Pennsylvania for the 2024 recruiting class. Martin is one of the top players in the country and perhaps the most sought-after player in the region. This commitment is the biggest for Penn State in the 2024 cycle to date by far.
Penn State lands the top player in Pennsylvania for the 2024 recruiting class
It’s very rare for the four major recruiting services to agree on a prospect. But in the case of Quinton Martin, it’s well deserved. 247 Sports, On3, Rivals, and ESPN all rank Martin as the No. 1 player in Pennsylvania. Additionally, the industry rankings have the Belle Vernon prospect ranked as a top 50 player in the 2024 recruiting class and a top five athlete in the country.
Martin’s recruitment has been trending towards Penn State for some time. In early April, Rivals FutureCast put in two predictions for Penn State to land the top player in Pennsylvania for the 2024 recruiting class. On top of that, the Nittany Lions were also favored to land Martin’s commitment according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. On3 also had Pitt, Ohio State, and West Virginia as the other top schools competing for his commitment.
Best in PA, stay in PA
Martin has made it clear for quite some time that Penn State had been making his recruitment a top priority. “Coach Franklin has been making it well-known that I’m one of his top priorities,” Martin told BWI in March. “But there’s also no pressure on me to make any kind of decision. He just wants me to do what I think is best for me.”
For James Franklin and the Penn State Nittany Lions, it appears that the slogan “the best in PA, stay in PA” will hold true for the 2024 recruiting class. By securing the top player in Pennsylvania for the 2024 cycle, the Nittany Lions will look to continue the growing line of Keystone State running backs to have stellar careers in the Blue and White.
