Penn State football recruiting just got a whole lot more exciting over the weekend. Dejaun Lane, a beastly four-star defender from Gilman High School in Baltimore, MD, dropped his final five choices, and the Nittany Lions made the cut — this is a huge win for James Franklin and his staff, who already have 13 hard commits and are currently sitting pretty in the top-5 nationally in the composite rankings.
Penn State football recruiting makes final cut for elite four-star Dejaun Lane
Lane is a four-star linebacker in the 2024 recruiting class, according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings. He’s a national force to be reckoned with, ranked No. 215 overall, No. 18 among safeties, and No. 4 in Maryland. And if that wasn’t impressive enough, On3 rates Lane as a four-star linebacker, ranking him No. 270 nationally, No. 32 among linebackers, and No. 7 in Maryland. Rivals has also given Lane their seal of approval, placing him among the top 240 recruits in the nation.
Standing at a towering 6-foot-3 and weighing 200 pounds, Lane is a highly coveted player, with offers from some of the nation’s top programs, including Penn State, Notre Dame, Maryland, and even the reigning national champions, Georgia. Adding Lane to the Nittany Lions’ roster would be a massive coup for the Penn State football recruiting class. With Lane considering Penn State as one of his final five choices, his recruitment is definitely something to watch as we gear up for what could be an intense summer for Nittany Lion recruiting.
How does Penn State’s class look so far?
The Penn State University football program is continuing to dominate the recruiting world with its impressive track record. The team currently has secured 13 hard commits for its 2024 recruiting class, including the recent addition of four-star running back Corey Smith from Wisconsin. As a result, the Nittany Lions have claimed a spot among the top five programs nationally.
In addition to Smith, several other top-tier prospects are showing strong interest in the Penn State football program. Nonetheless, the Nittany Lions are still trailing behind the Michigan Wolverines (ranked 1st) and the Ohio State Buckeyes (ranked 2nd) in the current composite recruiting rankings.
James Franklin, head coach of the Penn State football team and a well-known recruiter, knows the significance of securing a highly-coveted defender for his 2024 recruiting class. This type of athlete would undoubtedly provide a significant boost to the program and contribute to its ongoing success. If Penn State wants to compete with the other powers in the Big Ten East, these types of recruiting wins are necessary.
With so much at stake, the Nittany Lions undoubtedly understand that landing Dejaun Lane could be a game-changer for the program. The future looks bright in Happy Valley, and with the addition of this top-tier defender, Penn State’s already impressive recruiting haul would only get better.
