It’s no secret that the New York Giants have had a slow start to the season. It’s been amplified by the amount of primetime games they have played in. The team is completely different when former Penn State football running back Saquon Barkley isn’t on the field. Barkley has been out since the high ankle sprain that he suffered in the Giants’ lone week 2 victory against the Arizona Cardinals. But could Saquon return to the field today?

Will Saquon Barkley return to the field today?

The New York Giants take on one of the best offenses in the NFL. As they head to Miami to face the Dolphins today. But, will Saquon Barkley return to action? Ryan Dunleavy who covers the Giants for the New York Post recently provided an update on the former Penn State player. In his article Saquon Barkley will have to run behind depleted O-line – if he plays.

Dunleavy said, “Barkley’s status has improved each week, but he still looked limited during Friday’s practice, putting a third straight game in jeopardy.” Head coach Brian Daboll said “Barkley has been able to cut laterally in practice.”

Daboll commented on Saquon‘s status as well. Stating, “He’s done stuff in team [drills] and some individual stuff.” So, I think he’s made progress. We’ll let it go as far as we can let it go.”

However, while things appeared to be trending in the right direction for Barkley this week, late breaking news overnight called his status into questions. In a tweet sent out early Sunday morning, NFL insider Ian Rapport noted, “The Giants are not expected to have RB Saquon Barkley in today’s game against the Dolphins…it doesn’t appear he’s quite ready. But closer.”

If true, this would be a tough break for Barkley. Hopefully, we see No. 26 back on the field soon. So far in 2023, Saquon has racked up 29 carries for 114 yards and 1 touchdown. He’s second on the team in rushing although he has missed two games.
