Penn State offensive lineman Caedan Wallace (73) prepares for a play during a White Out football game against Iowa Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, in State College, Pa. The Nittany Lions shut out the Hawkeyes, 31-0.

It’s no secret that the Penn State football offensive line played very well against Iowa. James Franklin announced the offensive player of the game and gave that award to the entire offensive line. He included Caedan Wallace, Sal Wormley, JB Nelson, Olu Fashanu, Hunter Nourzad, Olaivavega Ioane, and Drew Shelton. The offensive line unit controlled the game and picked up key first downs when needed. Then, yesterday the Penn State offensive line made history. They won the Joe Moore Award Pancake Block of the Week.

Each season, the Joe Moore Award is given to the best offensive line unit in college football. During the regular season, the Joe Moore Award social account gives out the #PancakeBlockOfTheWeek. This award is won by a poll that is put on Twitter/X and fans are allowed to vote for their favorite pancake block. This week, Penn State made history becoming the first unit to be recognized for this award.

The play that was highlighted was a QB sneak by Drew Allar that needed to pick up one yard. Allar did that and more because of this unit. The OL never gets the credit they deserve from a week-to-week standpoint but they did yesterday.

After practice on Wednesday night, James Franklin spoke about the OL winning this award together.

Franklin said, “One of the things I thought was really cool is those guys [the offensive line] got the Joe Moore week pancake award. To me, that’s like the best and coolest award in college football because it’s given to a group.”
