St. Joseph's Prep linebacker Anthony Sacca (39) celebrates after intercepting a tipped pass during the PIAA Class 6A football championship game against North Allegheny at Cumberland Valley High School, Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, in Mechanicsburg, Pa. The Hawks won, 45-23.

You don’t always have to follow in your father’s footsteps. That applies in life and on the football field. We see that more and more every year; just because a player’s father played college football at one school doesn’t mean his son has to as well. However, if the stars align, it’s always great to keep the legacy growing. The Penn State football team has been out of the hunt on 2025 recruiting class LB Anthony Sacca, who is the son of ex-Nittany Lion QB Tony Sacca, for over a month. Now, it appears the final nail is in the coffin with a new crystal ball to Notre Dame.

Penn State football legacy prospect predicted to land at Notre Dame

Anthony Sacca is a four-star linebacker in the 2025 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. While the Nittany Lions are doing well at the position in the current cycle, it’s never easy seeing the son of a legacy player head elsewhere. Especially when Sacca plays his high school football at St. Joesph’s Prep in Philadelphia.

Now, Tom Loy of 247Sports has announced that he is placing a crystal ball for Sacca to commit to Notre Dame. Loy isn’t alone in his prediction, as national recruiting insider Brian Dohn also has a crystal ball in favor of the Fighting Irish. While anything can happen in the world of college football recruiting, it looks like the door for Sacca to suit up for the Nittany Lions is closed for now.

Sacca did not include Penn State in his top schools

While it seems the Penn State football team has missed its opportunity here with Anthony Sacca, what was more surprising happened over a month ago. At the beginning of February, Sacca released his top five schools which included Ohio State, Alabama, Wisconsin, Duke, and Notre Dame.

For the Nittany Lions to not even be in the final five schools felt more shocking. But as we have seen over the years, if it doesn’t work out at whatever school Sacca commits to James Franklin isn’t opposed to re-opening the relationship if presented with the right opportunity.
