As the Penn State football season moves forward, additional prospects continue to make a name for themselves. Certain players that Penn State is targeting have seen this increase, and others that have a deeper family tie to the university. The 2025 recruiting class is still searching for the anchor on the offensive line. Previously it was Jaeylen Matthews who held that role, but he recently decommitted from the Nittany Lions. As Phil Trautwein and James Franklin look to the future, could this son of a former Penn State football player fill that void? Michael Carroll has recently jumped up the recruiting rankings.

Son of former Penn State football player earns MASSIVE honor

Michael Carroll is a 6’5, 300-pound offensive lineman in the 2025 recruiting class. He currently holds offers from Rutgers, Temple, Maryland, Penn State, and several other schools. In a recent recruiting update, Carroll has moved from the 15th overall interior offensive lineman to the No. 3 prospect in the nation, according to On3. He is also listed as the No. 3 prospect in Pennsylvania for the 2025 recruiting class and ranked as the No. 118 overall player in the country. According to On3, there is a 39% chance that Penn State will land this prospect in the future.

This decision would make a lot of sense based on his father. Michael Carroll is the son of former Penn State football linebacker Michael Carroll Sr. He played for the Nittany Lions in the late 1990s under head coach Joe Paterno. As his profile continues to build, additional schools will offer Carroll, can Phil Trautwein seal the deal with another top offensive line prospect?
