The Penn State football team continues to push heavily to keep the top talent in Pennsylvania at home. With that in mind, the Nittany Lions are in a battle for the No. 1 quarterback in PA in the 2025 recruiting class. Matt Zollers has stated that he is down to his final four schools, but this recruiting insider believes the battle is much smaller. It could be Penn State versus Georgia making the final effort to land Zollers.
Penn State football & Georgia battling for PA’s top QB
Matt Zollers continues to rise in popularity on the recruiting trail. A large part is due to his true dual-threat ability. When watching his film, not only does Zollers make effortless 50-yard passes, but he also has play-making ability with his legs.
247Sports recently reviewed the top quarterback prospects in the 2025 recruiting class on their Football Recruiting Podcast: Latest Intel on Top 2025 Quarterbacks. National Recruiting Analyst Tom Loy had a lot of great background context for Zollers, his future, and his choice between Missouri, Pittsburgh, Georiga, and Penn State.
“He’s going to take four visits in March; that’s the plan he told me Wednesday morning,” Loy said. “He wants to see all four schools before making his decision. Commitment is coming in the near future, [but] nothing is completely set. The visit dates aren’t even set at this point. But he does want to see all four schools before making a decision.
“I’m kind of watching Georgia and Penn State the closest at this point. I think they’re the ones with the most buzz and the most optimism. At least the ones I’ve been talking to.”
Why Zollers is important to Penn State’s future
During this NIL era, a lot of people have written off Penn State football. The Nittany Lions recruit well, but it always seems when they are in the hunt for a player who has larger schools that have more to offer, they end up on the losing side of that battle.
Matt Zollers can be viewed as a pivotal player in the Nittany Lions’ future. If he chooses to commit to Penn State, it will show that the larger goal of keeping the best talent in PA is possible even when recent national champions are knocking at the door.
