The calendar has turned to March, meaning James Franklin and his staff are focused on two things: spring ball and Penn State football recruiting efforts. When it comes to the Nittany Lions’ pursuit of four-star defensive line target Trent Wilson, a top-100 prospect out of Maryland in the class of 2025, it appears that Penn State is a major contender — he made his commitment timeline a bit clearer heading into official visit season.

Penn State football is one of the few teams to get an official visit with Trent Wilson this summer — the other three are Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Texas A&M. While these are all major programs, with strong NIL ties, it appears that Wilson is trending toward picking James Franklin and his Nittany Lions, per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Trent Wilson will take his next official visit with Penn State football on April 13 — the day of the Nittany Lions’ Blue-White Spring Game. While stout competition like the Ohio State Buckeyes remains a factor here, it appears that James Franklin has the lead, a lead that he must maintain for a few more months.

Latest reports state that Wilson is looking to commit in July, soon after his official visits come to an end. The four-star defensive line target reportedly has “built a great relationship with Coach Deion Barnes and with Coach Franklin,” which bodes well for Penn State football and its recruiting efforts with the top-ranked prospect.

Per On3, Trent Wilson is a four-star defensive lineman out of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. He ranks as the No. 94 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle, the No. 9 defensive line target, and the No. 1 player in the state of Maryland.
