It’s better late than never, some might say, in the recruiting cycle. That can be said for the Penn State football team as the Nittany Lions are set to host Mariyon Dye, a top 50 prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. This is a prospect who might end up as the No. 1 defensive end in the country at the end of this recruiting cycle. While Penn State has not been super involved with this prospect, James Franklin and company now have an opportunity to show him what the Nittany Lions have to offer and enter a heated recruiting battle with Big Ten rival Ohio State.

Mariyon Dye is a four-star edge rusher prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. Dye is currently listed as the No. 1 player in Indiana, the No. 5 edge rusher, and the No. 47 player nationally, according to On3. He resides in Elkhart, IN, attends Elkhart High School, and is listed at 6 foot 5, 235 pounds.

Now, the talented edge rusher is set to visit Penn State football this weekend for the first time, per Chad Simmons of On3. On his On3 profile, the industry ranking believes Dye has a 95% chance of landing at Ohio State, but incredible things can change on these visits. It’ll be interesting to see if the Nittany Lions can make some progress with the relationship and put themselves in a position to land Mariyon Dye.

What took so long for a visit?

According to 247Sports, the Nittany Lions officially offered Dye in late December 2023. He is a player who did not have a recruiting ranking until early December. So, this leads Dye to be a late bloomer in terms of notoriety.

Deion Barnes and James Franklin did not offer Dye until late in the cycle. But if they can make a positive impression on Dye during this visit, Penn State might be able to jump into the mix for his prospect.
