There is plenty of reshuffling to be done atop college football following Week 1 of the 2025 season, with four AP top 10 teams falling over Labor Day weekend. But despite all the movement, Penn State football will keep its spot near the top of the poll following Saturday’s win over Nevada.
The Nittany Lions stayed at No. 2 in this week’s AP Poll, which was just released on Tuesday afternoon. Unsurprisingly, Ohio State claimed the top spot after knocking off No. 1 Texas in Columbus on Saturday. Penn State earned seven first-place votes in this week’s poll, 16 fewer than it earned in last month’s preseason rankings. The Buckeyes earned 55 first-place votes.
“I was pleased with an early season game and how clean things were and how organized we were,” James Franklin said Monday of the Nittany Lions’ season-opening win. “We had no issues that you see a ton of early games in a season with college football programs where they’re burning timeouts, those types of things.”
Of note, the new AP rankings move Oregon up one place, from No. 7 to No. 6, moving us closer to a potential top-five matchup at the end of the month. The Ducks face Oklahoma State, Northwestern, and Oregon State before traveling to Happy Valley on September 27.
