Week one of the 2024 college football season is several months away. But it’s never too early for the odd makers and how they value the matchup between Penn State football and West Virginia. The team that the Nittany Lions handled at home last season without an issue. But 2024 the matchup will be different as Penn State travels to Morgantown. However, DraftKings sportsbook believes the result will be similar.

Playing on the road to open any college football season is a challenge. But playing at a historic venue like Milan Puskar Stadium home of the West Virginia Mountaineers will be even more difficult. The last time Penn State football opened on the road was during the 2022 season when they squeaked by a last-second victory at Purdue.

Now, the Nittany Lions have been made a 12-point favorite over the Mountaineers from an early line by DraftKings. An interesting number as Penn State beat West Virginia 38-15 in Beaver Stadium to open the 2023 season.

An electric atmosphere to open the 2023 season at Beaver Stadium featured the helmet stripe game where 95% of the stadium wore white. Penn State handled business and Drew Allar had quite the debut to his first college start. Allar finished with 325 yards and 3 touchdown passes.

Early in the first quarter Allar connected with former Penn State WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith for a 72-yard touchdown. The Nittany Lions took control early and never looked back. They beat West Virginia by 23 points at home last season and now have an almost two-touchdown advantage ahead of the 2024 season. Over the next several weeks the line will move but, interestingly, Penn State has this much momentum early in the offseason.
