The Penn State football team fell short on Saturday afternoon against Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl. They didn’t have the defensive depth or the offensive firepower to keep up with Lane Kiffin’s team. But were they playing two against one in the ball game? Having to fend off Ole Miss and the refs, James Franklin and Abdul Carter both shared thoughts on this following the loss.

James Franklin questions Peach Bowl refs after loss

Following the Peach Bowl loss, James Franklin was fired up about the PAC12 refs that were assigned to the game. While they had some questionable calls in the game, I’m not sure they made a significant difference in the outcome of the game. There was a no-call pass interference against Penn State. But on the other hand, there was a no-call offside that the refs missed in favor of Ole Miss.

When speaking about the officiating Franklin said, “I won’t get into all the details. I thought the officiating was less than desirable. That first drive, we have the field goal, we run a slant, we get turned around, but I’ll move on. I could list out a number of examples. That’s a big play in that game at a critical moment, starting out with a touchdown rather than a field goal is significant. But I’ll move on. But I’ll move on.”

A scary play for Abdul Carter

Abdul Carter was keeping the Penn State football defense in the game yesterday. Until the below play happened. A dirty hit to his lower leg left the sophomore linebacker hobbled for the remainder of the game. Carter tried to gut out the rest of the game but it ended up not working out and he was eventually removed from the game.

James Franklin and Abdul Carter have two good examples of bad calls. I’m still not convinced by getting these calls the outcome would’ve been different. At the end of the day, the play against Carter needs to be removed from the game as it’s dangerous and unnecessary.
