Heading into the 2024 season, the Penn State football secondary has the potential to look very different. So far, Daequan Hardy is the only official announcement for the Nittany Lions to enter the NFL Draft. But the assumption is Johnny Dixon and Kalen King will follow Hardy. Terry Smith even hinted at this possibility on National Signing Day. This leads to a depth issue at cornerback heading into next season. Penn State doesn’t need to rebuild the secondary, instead, they just need to reload. They can start by reaching out to former five-star recruit and LSU cornerback Denver Harris who is officially in the transfer portal.

Denver Harris was a former five-star recruit in the 2022 recruiting class. He played his freshman year at Texas A&M before transferring to LSU ahead of the 2023 season. So far, his college career has not panned out as expected, as he has struggled to make a significant impact in either program. At LSU, he accounted for 7 tackles and 2 pass breakups.

It has never been a skill issue with Harris it’s about fitting into a scheme and seeing the field. With the amount of highly recruited players at Texas A&M and LSU he had his work cut out for him to carve out a significant role. That’s why the Penn State football team should go after Harris; they need depth and/or a potential starter. Harris can fill that void for the Nittany Lions.

What connection does Penn State have to Denver Harris?

The Penn State football team extended an offer to Denver Harris on March 22nd, 2020, according to 247Sports. He is a player that Terry Smith and James Franklin targeted during the recruiting process, but remember, official visits were challenging during the 2020 season. They did not get a chance to host Harris for a weekend, but could that be the difference-maker this time around?

At the end of the day, it’s a low-risk, high-reward player to go and sign. Denver Harris is a player worth keeping an eye on over the next few weeks.
