Son of former Penn State QB set to visit this weekend

Penn State football is set to kick off a series of junior days starting this weekend, with the January recruiting contact period now officially open. While numerous highly touted prospects are expected to be in State College throughout the remainder of January, one visitor will return to his father’s old stomping grounds with his visit. Earlier this week, Anthony Sacca, son of former Penn State QB Tony Sacca, confirmed he will be visiting with James Franklin and the Nittany Lions this weekend.

2025 LB Anthony Sacca to visit Penn State this weekend

Longtime Nittany Lions fans are likely familiar with the career of former Penn State QB Tony Sacca. Playing under Joe Paterno from 1988 to 1991, Sacca, once one of the most highly touted QB recruits in the country, ranks sixth in Penn State football history with 5,869 passing yards. Later selected in the second round of the 1992 NFL Draft, Tony Sacca had a short professional career in the United States and Europe. 

Now, Anthony Sacca can follow in his father’s footsteps. From Delran, New Jersey, Sacca is a four-star prospect in the 2025 cycle who plays his high school football at St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia. Making the transition from the defensive backfield to LB before this season, Anthony Sacca is currently rated as the No. 25 LB in the class of 2025 and the No. 5 recruit in Pennsylvania, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. 

On Monday, Anthony Sacca took to social media to confirm that he will visit Penn State football this weekend. The son of the former Penn State QB last visited Happy Valley in September 2022. Sacca could be among the first class of recruits for new DC and LBs coach Tom Allen, who was hired in December.

While James Franklin and Penn State football certainly have the legacy factor, this recruitment is anything but a done deal. Sacca has 23 offers to date, including some from the nation’s best programs. Ohio State and Notre Dame are also considered top contenders for his commitment. 

More highly touted recruits are on the way

While Anthony Sacca is a name to watch given his family’s connections to the Nittany Lions, he is not the only top recruit that Penn State football will host in the coming weeks. 

The Nittany Lions are also expected to host Kainoa Winston, the No. 2 safety in the 2025 cycle, this weekend as well. Winston also has family connections to James Franklin and the Penn State football program, as he is the cousin of starting safety KJ Winston. 

Another notable prospect expected to make a trip to State College is EDGE Ari Watford, who is locked in for a visit on February 3. Watford is the No.1 DE and the No. 20 prospect in the country for the 2025 cycle.
