After only signing one high school prospect at WR in the 2023 cycle, wideout has become a priority position for Penn State football recruiting in the 2024 cycle. The Nittany Lions have hosted several top targets on campus so far in June. It appears that James Franklin and his staff are trending in a positive direction for 2024 four-star WR Jaylan Hornsby, who listed Penn State, along with an SEC school, as the two finalists for his commitment.

Jaylan Hornsby is one of the top recruits in the state of New Jersey for this upcoming cycle. The Winslow Township prospect is the No. 5 overall player in the Garden State and the 61st-rated WR nationally for the class of 2024, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
On Friday, Hornsby narrowed his recruiting process down to two schools — Penn State and Texas A&M. The Nittany Lions have been considered the leader in Hornsby’s recruitment for quite some time. During his recruitment, the four-star WR has already made three unofficial visits to Happy Valley.
James Franklin and the Nittany Lions have been on commitment watch since Hornsby made an official visit during the first weekend of June. Although Hornsby also made an official visit to Texas A&M last week, Penn State is still in the running to land the four-star prospect.
Following his visit to State College earlier this month, Hornsby spoke highly of new Penn State WR coach Marques Hagans. “I had a good relationship with Hagans before I came, but I think our bond definitely got closer this weekend,” Hornsby said to Blue-White Illustrated. “I met his family, and he met mine. That was good to do. I feel like I know more about him as a person now.”
Jaylan Hornsby would be Penn State’s first WR commitment for the class of 2024, which is currently ranked anywhere from 7th to 12th nationally. Last cycle, the Nittany Lions only signed one WR from high school, four-star Carmelo Taylor. However, Penn State did bring in WRs Malik McClain and Dante Cephas from the transfer portal in 2023.
