Today, former Penn State football quarterback Sean Clifford was drafted 149th overall by the Green Bay Packers and will now compete with Packers QB Jordan Love to be Aaron Rodgers’ replacement.
Penn State football QB Sean Clifford drafted by Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers passed on former Penn State QB Will Levis in the first and second rounds of the draft, ultimately selecting Sean Clifford in the fifth round. Clifford, who played for Penn State from 2019-2022, holds every passing record for the Nittany Lions, including career yards, touchdowns, and wins (33).
As a first-year starter, Clifford led Penn State to an 11-2 record and a top-10 finish with a win over Memphis in the Cotton Bowl. In his final season, he led the team to another 11-2 record and a Rose Bowl victory over No. 8 Utah.
While Clifford has the potential to succeed in the NFL, his consistency has been a concern throughout his college career. If the Packers can help him overcome these issues, they may have secured one of the draft’s biggest steals.
