Regardless of how you feel about the SEC conference, you have to admit that some of the top talent in the country commits to SEC schools. Penn State football has found success in landing former SEC players and molding their careers. Take Johnny Dixon as an example of how the move from South Carolina to Penn State revived his playing career. Now, the Nittany Lions will dip back into the SEC transfer portal pool after earning a commitment from Jalen Kimber, a former Georgia Bulldog and Florida Gator cornerback. On Thursday, Penn State flipped Kimber from 2023 ACC contender Louisville, where he committed earlier this offseason. Kimber’s commitment is the second of the day for the Nittany Lions, after it was announced that former Georgia Bulldog AJ Harris had joined the program this morning.

BREAKING: Penn State football flips SEC veteran Jalen Kimber from Louisville

Jalen Kimber was a four-star cornerback prospect in the 2020 recruiting class, according to 247sports. A native of Arlington, TX, Kimber made his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs out of high school. He played in Athens for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Then, Kimber hit the transfer portal and found a new home with the Florida Gators. He had his career-best season statistically in 2023, recording 5 pass breakups and 23 tackles for the Gators.

Now, ahead of his redshirt senior season, Jalen Kimber has hit the transfer portal one more time. Kimber’s recruitment out of the portal this time around has been quite the adventure. On December 30, Kimber committed to Louisville, who played for the ACC title this season.

But ultimately, Jalen Kimber is destined for Happy Valley. On Thursday, the SEC veteran announced that, rather than Lousiville, he will end his college career with the Penn State football team.

Much like former five-star Georgia CB AJ Harris, Kimber popped up in the Penn State student directory this week. Whereas reports Thursday morning broke the news of Harris’s decision to join the Penn State football program, Kimber decided to take care of the announcement himself in the afternoon.

Boosting the secondary via the transfer portal

Depth is something that James Franklin often speaks about. To have skilled players who can rotate in but also experienced players with a proven track record has been critical to the Nittany Lions’ success in recent seasons.

After watching the Peach Bowl, James Franklin knew his secondary needed a boost, which ultimately resulted in the commitment of Jalen Kimber and AJ Harris. Both Harris and Kimber will figure to compete for starting roles in 2024, with the Nittany Lions losing their top three DBs in Kalen King, Johnny Dixon, and Daequan Hardy.
