Over the past 24 hours, the Penn State Nittany Lions have been thriving as an athletic department. Not only did the basketball team advance to the Big Ten semifinal with an overtime win over Northwestern, but two other Penn State teams earned massive upset wins.

Two Penn State teams earn massive upset wins over top-3 teams

Men’s volleyball knocks off No. 1 team

On Friday night, the Penn State men’s volleyball team — which was ranked No. 3 in the nation at the time — headed to Hawaii to take on the No. 1 Rainbow Warriors. Heading into the match, No. 1 Hawaii was riding a 25-match winning streak; however, the Penn State Nittany Lions ended this streak in thrilling fashion. All said and done, Penn State men’s volleyball won three of the match’s four sets and gave Hawaii its first loss of the season.

Penn State improved to 16-2 on the season (4-0 EIVA).

Men’s lacrosse takes down No. 3 Cornell

On Saturday afternoon, the 8th-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions’ men’s lacrosse team took down No. 3 Cornell on the road in Ithaca, NY. Despite starting the year unranked, Penn State men’s lacrosse has gone on a winning streak and now sits at 5-1 overall with huge wins over No. 5 Yale and No. 3 Cornell. Heading into this weekend, the Nittany Lions sat at No. 8 in the polls; however, after Saturday’s 10-6 win over the nation’s No. 3 team, Penn State men’s lacrosse is bound to shoot up in the polls.
