Something no Penn State football fan ever wanted to see happened last Saturday. Star quarterback Drew Allar took a brutal hit that ended up knocking him out for the remainder of the Rutgers game. But following the matchup, James Franklin reiterated that the injury wasn’t severe and that Allar should be expected to go. But was that coach talk to throw off Michigan State? Or will Allar really be a full go? We find out now as the week 12 availability report has just been released for Penn State.
Drew Allar not listed on injury report ahead of Michigan State game
Penn State football has dealt with injuries all season but none larger than losing Drew Allar last weekend. Although in his absence, Beau Pribula played very well. The biggest question on everyone’s mind tonight is who will play quarterback for the Nittany Lions against Michigan State? Below is the availability report for Penn State ahead of tonight’s game.
Availability Report:
Harrison Wallace III – OUT
Mehki Flowers – OUT
Smith Vilbert – OUT
James Franklin on Allar’s status this week
The media was able to speak with James Franklin on Monday during his weekly press conference and again on Tuesday after practice. Coach Franklin was confident in the information that he had on Allar’s injury at the time.
On Monday, Franklin said, “We expect Drew to go,” Franklin said. “Just like we planned on last week, I still think both of those guys will have roles. And I think Beau will be ready to go. He did a great job [against Rutgers]. He didn’t flinch. The staff didn’t flinch. The players didn’t flinch. And he went in and made plays like we expected him to make. It’s too early for me to say, we have not practiced yet since the game. But all indications, I would think we’re going to be back to normal.”
He then followed that confident statement up on Tuesday by adding, “Yeah, I think your point is a fair one. That if we were game-planning for Drew [Allar] to be the primary quarterback it would be a little bit different than if we were preparing for Beau [Pribula] to be the primary quarterback. We would emphasize different things. But that’s why it’s good when you guys asked me before I said that really, you know our model and plan doesn’t need to change based on the information we have right now.”
Penn State vs. Michigan State will kick off at 7:30 pm tonight on NBC.
