The Penn State football team has been in a unique position during this gap between the final regular season game and the Peach Bowl. On one hand, players are making decisions to return to school to pursue the NFL. On the other hand, players also have the choice to try and find a new home in the transfer portal. Thankfully for Penn State, they’ve only lost two players to the portal in December. Wide receiver Cristian Driver and punter Alex Bacchetta and today Baccehetta announced that he has found a new home by committing to the University of Rice.
Outgoing Penn State football transfer finds new home
Alex Bacchetta was a 3-star recruit in the 2022 recruiting class. He seemed to be on track to become the next punter of the Penn State football team. That plan changed when current punter Riley Thompson announced that he received a two-year eligibility extension from the NCAA. Due to this, Bacchetta entered the transfer portal, and it didn’t take him long to find a new home at Rice.
When will Penn State make a move in the transfer portal?
A question that is on many Nittany Lion fans’ minds is when will PSU land star talent of their own in the portal. So far, the Nittany Lions have added Alan Herron, an offensive lineman from Shorter University. They are currently in the mix for RB/KR Jaylin Lucas from Indiana and WR Andre Greene Jr from UNC.
My advice to Penn State fans is to be patient. The Nittany Lions will pick players up that make the roster stronger, but just because moves aren’t being made now doesn’t mean the team is at a standstill behind the scenes.
