For years it has felt like the Ohio State Buckeyes were a well-oiled machine that had no signs of slowing down. The Penn State football team last defeated the Buckeyes in 2016 but this year felt like their best chance at success. Unfortunately, it was the same old story and the Nittany Lions fell short once again. However, even after beating Penn State and Notre Dame this season, many would argue that Ohio State had a below-average season. Most of that blame has shifted to QB Kyle McCord for the poor results. With that, the Buckeyes dipped into the transfer portal to find their next quarterback landing former Kansas State QB Will Howard.
Ohio State signs former Kansas State QB from PA in the portal
Kyle McCord played his high school football at St. Joe’s Prep in Philadephia. Many wondered if the Penn State football team missed out on him as a prospect after he defeated the Nittany Lions back in October. But after falling short against Michigan for the third year in a row, McCord chose to transfer to Syracuse.
Leaving the Buckeyes without a quarterback. If you watched the Cotton Bowl where Ohio State and Missouri faced off it was clear they needed to add talent to their quarterback room. Ohio State landed Will Howard who led Kansas State to a Big 12 Championship in 2022. Howard chose Ohio State over Miami and USC. From Downingtown, PA Howard was a three-star prospect coming out of high school. According to 247sports Penn State did not extend an offer to him. In his career, he has thrown for 5.786 yards 48 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions.
Will Howard has Penn State ties
The elephant in the room is the Penn State football team will likely face Will Howard in 2024 when Ohio State travels to Penn State in what should be a top-10 matchup. But even without a scholarship offer out of high school Howard still has Penn State ties. He is actively signed with former Penn State QB Sean Clifford’s NIL agency Limitless NIL. It will be interesting to see if he sticks with the agency now that he’s at Ohio State.
