The Penn State football team, like many other college football programs around the country, is preparing for the summer. Not only are they preparing for summer workouts but the slate of official visits that are coming their way. To make the best impression possible on the 2025 recruiting class prospect, the Nittany Lions will have to fend off many top programs for legacy prospect Michael Carroll. Now, ahead of his official visit to Happy Valley, Carroll will be down in Georgia visiting the Bulldogs.
Penn State football legacy target sets official visit with Georgia
Michael Carroll has been labeled as a “must-get” prospect by head coach James Franklin. It’s true, Carroll feels like a must-get prospect and that’s for two reasons. First is the fact that his father, Michael Carroll Sr., played linebacker for the Nittany Lions in the late 1990s. The second reason is he’s a Pennsylvania native; more specifically, Carroll is from Doylestown, PA. So, for Penn State to continue the initiative for the best in PA to stay in PA, Carroll is a big part of that effort.
In terms of the prospect Penn State football is pursuing in Carroll, he recently saw a recruiting ranking increase. In a recent update, On3 lists Carroll as the No. 2 recruit in Pennsylvania and the 2nd overall interior offensive lineman in the 2025 recruiting class. He is now the 27th overall prospect in the 2025 cycle.
Carroll is set to take his official visit to Happy Valley on June 14th, which will be his seventh visit to State College, the school he has visited the most during his recruitment. But on Wednesday, he announced that a new official visit has been set to Georgia starting on May 31st. According to 247Sports, that’s when Carroll was supposed to visit Rutgers, so it appears his plans have changed. James Franklin must fend off the Georgia Bulldogs to keep Carroll in the Keystone State.
Reviewing the Penn State football 2025 recruiting class
We’re still several months away from National Signing Day for the 2025 recruiting class. For this cycle, it has felt that the Nittany Lions are taking their time securing commitments. Currently, Penn State sits at 12 hard commits with linebacker DJ McClary and running back Alvin Henderson leading the way in star power.
The next two months will be critical for the Nittany Lions and building on the 9th overall recruiting class according to 247Sports. If the Penn State coaching staff can make each official visit meaningful, they could have a busy summer while securing additional commitments.
