It’s one thing to have one star on your football team. But to have two-star players in the same position is a true sign that your program is doing well. That’s where the Penn State football team finds themselves with their dynamic running back duo of Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton. Both players burst onto the scene during the 2022 season and are here to stay. Now, the Nittany Lion rising stars have both been mentioned to be in the running for the Doak Walker Award.

The Doak Walker Award is given to the best running back in the country each college football season. The award was most recently won by Bijan Robinson from Texas who tallied up 1580 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns during the 2022 season. Now both Penn State running backs Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen has the opportunity to bring the trophy back to State College, which hasn’t been done since 2002 when Larry Johnson won the award for the Nittany Lions.

It’s great to see both players receiving recognition on the national level. Typically the media covers Nick Singleton but forgets how successful his counterpart Kaytron Allen was in 2022.

2022 was a special season for Nick Singleton & Kaytron Allen

During the 2022 season, Nick Singleton racked up 1,061 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns while Kaytron Allen accounted for 867 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns. When the Nittany Lions need a long drive Kaytron Allen is the player for the dive, but when they need an explosive play they look towards Nick Singleton for those.

Both players are just starting to scratch the surface in terms of their potential and the Penn State football team will rely heavily on this duo this fall.
