One area of concern for the past two seasons with the Penn State football team has been at wide receiver. Which is crazy to think about. All of the great wide receivers in recent years have been through the program for the Nittany Lions. Chris Godwin, DaeSean Hamilton, KJ Hamler, Jahan Dotson, Parker Washington, the list goes on and on. Now, Penn State is hopeful they will turn the page for the 2024 season and beyond. The Penn State 2025 recruiting class holds a commitment from wide receiver Lyrick Samuel who should have the Nittany Lion faithful excited. He recently earned some well-deserved praise from a national scout.

Lyrick Samuel made his commitment official to the Penn State football team on February 19th, 2024. He currently is the only wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting class for the Nittany Lions. While several others are expected to step foot on campus for official visits this summer.

Samuel is a four-star prospect and the No. 1 player in New York for the 2025 cycle according to On3. Standing at 6-4 170 pounds Penn State fans should be excited for his future in Happy Valley. Charles Powers the Director of Scouting for On3 had high praise for Nittany Lion commit.

“Lyrick Samuel has a lot of things going for him the more I learn about him. First off, he should be a 2026 guy, age-wise. He’s extremely young. So, when you look at his development, it totally makes sense. This guy is 16 years old and he’s getting better and better at a rate that’s probably a little faster than some of the other receivers that we’ve known about for a while.”

Could this wide receiver soon join Samuel?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of the current state of the Penn State wide receiver room. But the only way they will grow is through recruiting. Wide receiver coach Marques Hagans has been with the program long enough that he can bring in the players he sees value in.

One of those players is Corey Simms from Saint Louis (MO). Simms is a 6-3 185-pound wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting class. Simms holds a four-star ranking on Rivals where they rank him as the No. 1 player in Missouri.

Simms has set his official visit with the Nittany Lions which will take place from May 31st through June 2nd. If that visit impresses the talented prospect Penn State could find themselves with another WR in the 2025 recruiting class.
