In a quiet period for Penn State football, kickoff times for the 2023 season have dominated the headlines. The Nittany Lions officially have three kickoff times set, all of which are night games. But it now appears that Penn State will soon have the start time for its most crucial home contest of the season. First reported by Brett McMurphy of The Action Network, Penn State evidently is set to face off against the Michigan Wolverines on Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff on November 11.
Penn State football and Michigan showdown reportedly to air on Big Noon Kickoff
On Thursday evening, Brett McMurphy of The Action Network tweeted that Penn State’s November 11 showdown against reigning Big Ten champion Michigan will air on Big Noon Kickoff. As of Friday morning, neither school had confirmed the start time for the game.
This news shouldn’t surprise many as Fox, who owns the majority of the Big Ten’s TV rights, has put the conference’s highest profile games in the noon slot in recent years. If true, this will be the third time that the Nittany Lions’ biggest home matchup of the season will air on Big Noon, with the previous coming against the Wolverines in 2021 and Ohio State last year.
Nittany Lions have fallen behind in series history
Penn State holds a 10-16 record against Michigan since the school joined the Big Ten in 1993. The Nittany Lions are 6-7 against the Wolverines at home in that time. The last time the two faced off in Beaver Stadium, Michigan escaped with a narrow 21-17 victory.
Other than that 2021 game and 2020 – when James Franklin left Ann Arbor with a 27-17 victory – the home team has won every game in this series since 2016. As we reported earlier in May, Michigan is currently a 2.5-point favorite in this game.
Penn State has three kickoff times officially announced for the 2023 season. On September 2, the Nittany Lions will take on West Virginia under the Beaver Stadium lights with a 7:30 p.m. kick in the season opener. Three weeks later, on September 23, Penn State will face Iowa in the annual White Out game at 8 p.m. The Nittany Lions will then close out the regular season with another 7:30 p.m. start against Michigan State at Detroit’s Ford Field.
