As the off-season progresses for college football in 2023, there has been significant anticipation surrounding the 2023 Penn State football home schedule for the upcoming season. The enthusiastic Nittany Nation has been eagerly awaiting the announcement of the opponent that will be part of the legendary White Out tradition.
Finally, after much speculation, today brings an end to the guessing game. While some believed that the announcement of an evening kickoff time for Penn State’s game against West Virginia on May 6th was an indirect confirmation of a White Out, the latest news from Penn State football clarifies the situation.
Penn State White Out: Opponent and TV network confirmed
Penn State football enthusiasts can finally put an end to their speculations regarding the highly anticipated 2023 White Out game. Just this afternoon, Penn State Football made an official announcement unveiling the themes for all home games in the upcoming season.
Mark your calendars for September 23 at 8 PM ET, as that’s when the White Out spectacle will commence, with the Iowa Hawkeyes making their way to State College. This matchup holds great significance in the Big Ten, as Iowa aims to rebound from a disappointing campaign in 2022.
In addition to revealing the White Out game details, it was disclosed that CBS will be televising the event. This marks a notable shift, as it appears to be Penn State’s inaugural appearance on the new “Big Ten on CBS” slot. Previously, ESPN had exclusively covered the Penn State White Out games.
However, with ESPN no longer involved in Big Ten athletics, expect CBS, NBC, and FOX to secure broadcasting rights for these coveted matches more frequently.
Other Penn State home game themes for 2023 announced
Undoubtedly, the most significant news of the day revolved around the highly anticipated White Out announcement for Penn State football. Alongside this exciting revelation, we were also informed about the themes for the other home games this season. For the season opener against the West Virginia Mountaineers at Beaver Stadium, the theme will be a “helmet stripe.”
This theme made its debut in 2021 during the Michigan game and has since garnered considerable interest due to its unique and captivating nature. The majority of fans don white attire, while a smaller group seated at the 50-yard line dons blue to mimic the iconic Penn State helmet.
Furthermore, Penn State football unveiled several other themes for the upcoming season during this afternoon’s announcement. The themes include THON Spirit Day against Delaware, Generations of Greatness/Homecoming against UMass, Military Appreciation Day against Indiana, Stripe Out against Michigan, and All U Day against Rutgers. As for kickoff times and TV networks for these matchups, they have yet to be determined.
