With a strong offense, a formidable defense, and a talented coaching staff, the Nittany Lions seem well-positioned to contend for another Big Ten title. A significant factor contributing to their potential success lies in the dynamic duo of running backs: Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen. Penn State football star Kaytron Allen is not getting enough national praise

Despite being one of the nation’s top running backs, Kaytron Allen seems to be flying under the radar, with most of the national attention focused on Nick Singleton. While Singleton deserves recognition as one of the best in the country, it’s important not to overlook Allen’s exceptional talent and contributions. So why isn’t Kaytron Allen receiving more attention this summer?

Last season, Allen delivered a truly remarkable performance. He amassed an impressive 867 yards on 167 carries, averaging an exceptional 5.2 yards per carry, and reached the end zone for 10 touchdowns. What sets Allen apart is his ability to elude tackles, successfully evading defenders on an impressive 27% of his attempts. Additionally, his 10+ carries of over 10 yards ranked fourth-highest in the Big Ten conference.

Acknowledging his exceptional debut season, Kaytron Allen earned recognition as one of the top 10 true freshmen in college football, securing the ninth spot in Pro Football Focus’ rankings. It’s worth noting that Nick Singleton did not receive a similar ranking, further underscoring the impact and acclaim Allen garnered during his impressive campaign. Despite the lack of national buzz, it’s clear that Kaytron Allen’s talent and accomplishments are deserving of recognition and praise.

The human wrecking ball

One of the frequently underestimated aspects of the Penn State offense last season was the invaluable presence of Kaytron Allen. Similar to Singleton, Allen joined the team as a true freshman, and despite not initially receiving the same level of hype or attention, his contributions were equally crucial. The reason for his relatively lower visibility can be attributed to his selfless embrace of the less glamorous tasks within the Nittany Lions’ offense.

When it came to pivotal moments near the goal line or in short-yardage, Kaytron emerged as the go-to player. Despite facing flurries of veteran Big Ten tacklers, Allen always managed to plow forward for extra yardage when Penn State football needed it most.

Kaytron Allen consistently exhibited an unwavering determination in short-yardage and goal-line situations. Even after absorbing initial contact, it often took multiple defenders to slow down the relentless true freshman. As we approach the 2023 season, the young running back has continued to develop both in size and strength since last year, which should genuinely unsettle the entire Big Ten conference.

One game it might be Nick Singleton’s show and another it can be the Kaytron Allen show. I love that Penn State now has two dominant running backs, and that they feed the hot hand.

More media attention is needed for the true sophomore star running back

Despite the immense national buzz surrounding Penn State football, it seems that Kaytron Allen is not receiving the recognition he deserves. While discussions revolve around notable players like Nick Singleton and Drew Allar, as well as the team’s running back group as a whole, Kaytron’s name is noticeably absent from the top 10 lists and conversations.

It’s surprising, considering his undeniable talent and status as one of the best running backs in the country. One would expect the national media to showcase Penn State’s gritty sophomore, but thus far, the spotlight appears to be directed elsewhere.
