On Friday afternoon, it was reported by Hayes Fawcett that 2024 four-star defensive lineman T.A. Cunningham has released his final five schools. His top five include Michigan, Texas A&M, Miami, Oklahoma, and Penn State. Cunningham is a massive prospect as he stands at 6’5 265 according to his recruiting profile on 247sports. The type of player that defensive line coach Deion Barnes and head coach James Franklin are looking for in Happy Valley.
T.A. Cunningham has had a unique journey
To say the last few years have had several moving parts is putting it lightly when following the recruiting story for T.A Cunningham. According to 247sports, he has attended a new high school every year since his freshman year of high school. It started in 2020 when he attended Providence Christian Academy in Lilburn, GA, then in 2021, he played his high school football at Johns Creek also located in Georgia. Last season, he played out in California as he attended Los Alamitos and for his upcoming senior year, he will play in Miami, Florida. He also has a younger brother T.K Cunningham in the class of 2027 who holds several Power 5 offers early in his career.
Penn State football could use Cunningham’s size and speed
Over the past few seasons, the Penn State football team has had a top defensive unit in the country. One of the areas that they have struggled in is size among the defensive line. That’s an issue that could be resolved if Cunningham decided to commit to Penn State, at 6’5 265 he’s the ideal-sized prospect that the Nittany Lions need. On tape he is disruptive, not only does he beat multiple double teams and display his speed as a pass rusher, but he also has several pass deflections at the line of scrimmage due to his wingspan.
T.A Cunningham has set his commitment date for July 22nd and Penn State is in a great position to close the deal here. He currently holds a crystal ball from Lions247’s Tyler Calvaruso with a confidence level of 6. Obviously, Miami will make a final push to keep him in Florida, but this is a recruiting battle to keep your eyes on next Saturday.
