Yesterday, the Nebraska Cornhuskers joined the pursuit of four-star quarterback Luke Nickel, an esteemed target in the 2025 Penn State football recruiting class. With an extensive list of offers, Nickel’s recruitment has gained even more momentum as Nebraska becomes the sixth Big Ten program to vie for his commitment.
Nebraska Cornhuskers offer 2025 Penn State football recruiting target Luke Nickel
According to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Luke Nickel is a highly regarded four-star quarterback recruit in the 2025 recruiting cycle. Hailing from Alpharetta, GA, Nickel currently attends Milton High School. He holds an impressive position as the No. 314 recruit in his class, the No. 24 quarterback nationwide, and the No. 32 recruit in the state of Georgia.
James Franklin, the head coach of Penn State, has been actively expanding his recruitment efforts in the southern region. If prospects like Nickel choose to commit to Penn State, it could potentially set off a wave of commitments from other recruits.
It’s important to note that this speculation on my behalf is based on other Penn State recruiting trends, such as the Nittany Lions’ recent dominance in the state of Wisconsin.
According to the Recruiting Prediction Machine, although it is still early in Luke Nickel’s recruitment process, the Penn State Nittany Lions are currently considered among his top three choices. It is noteworthy that Penn State has yet to secure a quarterback for the 2025 class, or even for the 2024 class. Therefore, Nickel’s name could gain prominence as the 2025 recruiting class takes center stage in the upcoming year.
2025 class standing thus far
The 2025 Penn State football recruiting class has made an impressive start, currently ranking as one of the best in the nation at No. 3 overall and holding the top spot in the Big Ten. Despite the class being in its early stages, the Nittany Lions have secured several highly-ranked commitments, positioning themselves for a strong recruiting haul in 2025.
So far, James Franklin and his coaching staff have obtained three solid commitments. Two of these commits are rated as composite four-stars, while the other is a three-star prospect. Leading the class is Jaelyn Matthews, a standout player who has the potential to become a five-star recruit. Following closely is four-star running back Kiandre Barker, who recently joined the class. Additionally, the class features three-star cornerback Omari Gaines, an excellent addition to Penn State’s recruiting efforts.
Although the class is young, James Franklin has already gained considerable momentum in the 2025 recruiting cycle, setting the stage for a promising future for the Nittany Lions.
