Penn State hockey suffered a tough sweep to No. 3 Michigan State in Pegula Ice Arena on Friday and Saturday evenings. However, it wasn’t all bad for the Nittany Lions hockey program and Penn State in general this weekend. After a visit to Happy Valley, Barstool Sports and Spittin Chiclets personality Mike Grinnell was blown away by what Penn State had to offer.
Positive reviews for Hockey Valley from Barstool Sports star
Barstool Sports personality Mike Grinnell made a visit to Penn State this weekend as a part of his series Chiclets University on the Spittin Chiclets YouTube channel. In the series, Grinnell visits prominent college hockey programs, previously visiting Arizona State, UMass, and Boston College. Grinnell was at the game on Friday night, which ended up being a tough 5-0 loss to Michigan State.
But from participating in the “Roar Zone” student section to heading to Champs bar downtown for postgame, it appears the Barstool Sports star got the full Penn State experience. Mike Grinnell had nothing but great things to say about Happy Valley following his trip.
“I can’t believe Penn State is a real place and that people actually get to spend 4 years here #Heaven,” Grinnell posted on social media Saturday morning in a true testament to the Hockey Valley experience.
Tough weekend on the ice for Penn State hockey
Penn State hockey was swept this weekend by Michigan State with a 5-0 loss on Friday night and a 7-3 loss on Saturday. The Nittany Lions struggled to stop the high-flying Spartan offense, which currently ranks top 5 in the nation in scoring.
It isn’t really a surprise based on the talent gap between the two teams. Michigan State currently sits No. 3 in the Pairwise Rankings and is a legitimate national title contender.
Penn State now will have a lot of work to do if it hopes to make a return to the NCAA Tournament in March. Wins won’t come easy in the Big Ten as all 7 teams are ranked within the top 30 of the Pairwise. The Nittany Lions will head back on the road to take on Notre Dame next weekend in what could be a must-win series.
