There has been a lot of speculation about Penn State football’s week 1 matchup against their old-time rival, the West Virginia Mountaineers. Last month, NBC Sports visited State College to shoot what appeared to be a promotional video for the first season of Big Ten Saturday Night. Many fans believed that this was an unofficial confirmation that the week 1 game would be an evening kickoff. Now, the speculation surrounding the Penn State football vs. West Virginia kickoff time has been confirmed.

Penn State football vs. West Virginia kickoff time confirmed, night game incoming

The 2023 football season has many fans of Penn State and Big Ten schools in general more excited than usual. This season will be the first to have the Big Ten Conference’s new 7-year media rights deal in place. The deal includes games being broadcast on FOX, CBS, and NBC. FOX will broadcast in its usual Big Noon Kickoff timeslot, while CBS and NBC will utilize the 3:30 and 7:30 timeslots. The Nittany Lions will be the first team to play a game on NBC’s Big Ten Saturday Night. The team announced this afternoon that the game is officially slated for a 7:30 pm kickoff on NBC.

Unofficial announcement of Penn State’s 2023 White Out game?

Some Penn State fans may be wondering if the clash with the Mountaineers will be the annual White Out game. While we can speculate, we cannot say for sure if this matchup will paint the bleachers of Beaver Stadium white. The current thinking around Nittany Nation is that either the week 4 game against the Iowa Hawkeyes or the week 11 meeting with the Michigan Wolverines will take on the storied White Out theme.

However, since the Michigan game falls in November, historically the Big Ten has steered away from nighttime kickoffs from November and beyond, leaving many uncertainties. One would have to think that playing against the Mountaineers for the first time since the early 1990s could garner enough attention to warrant a White Out game. Only time will tell!
