We are just a few days removed from Blue/White weekend, and James Franklin is already hitting the 2024 recruiting trail quite hard. This week, it was reported that Penn State football is one of a few teams that is trying to flip four-star Georgia Bulldog commit Jaylen Heyward of Rockledge High School in Florida.
Penn State football looking to flip four-star Georgia Bulldog commit
On Tuesday, Penn State football landed its 10th commitment of the 2024 recruiting class: four-star offensive lineman Donovan Harbour, the No. 1 recruit in Wisconsin. Now, the Nittany Lions are going after another ambitious goal: four-star Georgia Bulldog commit Jaylen Heyward, who committed the Kirby Smart’s squad on January 13th, 2023.
Heyward is rated as a four-star by every major outlet, and is listed as the No. 45 recruit in the 2024 recruiting class, the No. 3 safety in the class, and the No. 10 recruit in the state of Florida according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings. He is one of the most sought-after recruits in the class, and if James Franklin can flip him, he could be one of the top Penn State football recruits in the 2024 class. Seeing as the Nittany Lions’ class is already ranked in the top 10 by every major outlet, flipping this Georgia Bulldog commit could shoot Penn State’s class into the top-5 or higher.
While Heyward has been committed to Georgia for a few months now, Penn State football may still have a chance; according to Heyward, despite his commitment, he is not done looking just yet.
“You still got to keep your eyes open,” Heyward told On3. “I’m still committed, but you always have to keep your eyes open because you never know how the game is going to play out.”
Additionally, despite being a late riser, Penn State football is turning into a top contender here.
“I didn’t put them in my top schools before because they weren’t recruiting me hard then,” Jaylen Heyward said. “They popped up on my radar late, but Penn State is really in the running.”
