The value of Dante Cephas, a new Penn State football transfer portal commit in the 2023 class, cannot be overstated ahead of the Nittany Lions’ upcoming season. With the loss of star Big Ten pass catchers like Parker Washington, Mitchell Tinsley, and Brenton Strange, Penn State needed to provide rising sophomore QB Drew Allar with new targets to throw to. Cephas fills a huge need while bringing loads of experience and talent to the table.

Penn State football transfer portal commit Dante Cephas stands out, graded top 3 in Big Ten

Recently, Pro Football Focus published its top-graded Big Ten wide receivers ahead of the 2023 season, and Cephas made the cut among the top three in the conference. Aside from KeAndre Lambert-Smith, who stood out in January’s Rose Bowl game, Penn State football lacked experience and depth at the wide receiver position. Now, it has become quite clear that Cephas is exactly what the Nittany Lions need this fall.

According to these new grades, Dante Cephas has an 82.1 overall grade (per PFF), ranking him at No. 3 among Big Ten wide receivers for the 2023 season. The only two wideouts listed above Cephas in the rankings are Emeka Egbuka and Marvin Harrison Jr., both playing for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Elite wide receivers are nothing new for Rydan Day’s program.

Cephas a key addition to the 2023 roster

Throughout his time with the Kent State Golden Flashes, Penn State football transfer portal commit Dante Cephas had an impressive Group of Five career. 2021 was his best season in the Blue and Gold, recording a head-turning 82 catches for 1,240 yards and nine touchdowns. As a transfer, Cephas was one of the top wideouts on the market.

This new transfer portal commit is great news for the Penn State football program, which is one of the younger yet more talented programs in the Big Ten right now. If the Nittany Lions can build chemistry between this veteran wideout and their former five-star quarterback, this connection could become one of the best in the Big Ten, if not the entire nation.
