The Nittany Lions are heating up on the recruiting trail, which was evident on Friday afternoon. Today, 2024 Penn State quarterback target Michael Van Buren released his top-3 remaining schools, and James Franklin’s Penn State football team made the cut. Michael Van Buren is arguably the Nittany Lions’ top 2024 quarterback target and has already announced his commitment date for early July; he is expected to choose Penn State when the time comes and could become a massive addition to the Lions’ recruiting class.
Penn State football makes top-3 with impressive 2024 quarterback target Michael Van Buren
Penn State football is one of three remaining finalists for 2024 quarterback Michael Van Buren, one of the top-ranked recruits in the state of Maryland. Van Buren will choose from the following: Oregon, Maryland, and Penn State. Of these schools, the Nittany Lions have the best odds of landing him per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (94.6%) and the most crystal balls (4/100%).
According to the 247 Sports Composite rankings, Michael Van Buren is a four-star quarterback and is ranked as the No. 130 recruit in the class, the No. 11 quarterback, and the No. 3 recruit in Maryland. So far, the Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State Buckeyes have both landed their own top-ranked quarterbacks, and it is widely thought that the Nittany Lions will need to land Van Buren (or another top QB target) to keep pace.
“I have built a great relationship with the coaches at Penn state, mainly with Coach Franklin, Coach Yurcich, and Coach O’Brian,” Van Buren told Hayes Fawcett of On3 ahead of the announcement. “They make sure to communicate with me often even if it’s not about football just checking up on me and seeing how I’m doing. They’ve shown a lot of love every time I made my way down to Happy Valley and the atmosphere in beaver stadium is insane! Everyone knows about Penn State’s rich tradition and they really put their players in the right position to succeed on and off the field.”
Michael Van Buren has an official visit scheduled for mid-June and will commit on July 8th, which will be a date for Penn State football fans to keep a close eye on this summer. Right now, Penn State’s 2024 recruiting class is one of three Big Ten classes to rank in the top 10 according to the 247 Sports Composite, sitting at No. 7 in the rankings right now (still behind Michigan at No. 3 and Ohio State at No. 2).
