The Penn State football team is wrapping up a major weekend of official and unofficial visits. The class that’s coming into focus is the 2025 recruiting class, where all of the official visits are coming from. Following the June 7-9 visits, a new report suggests that the Nittany Lions are on the verge of landing the next member of the 2025 cycle as multiple members of Rivals have placed a future cast for defensive back Josh Johnson to end up in Happy Valley.
Penn State football predicted to land a rising 2025 defensive back
Josh Johnson is a three-star defensive back in the 2025 recruiting class from Ironton, Ohio. Johnson who stands at 6-3 175 pounds is a lanky defender who is halfway through his slate of official visits. He started with Louisville on May 31 and over the past few days, he has completed his official visit with Penn State.
This trip served as his third visit to Happy Valley, the school Johnson has visited the most during his recruitment. Looking ahead Johnson will take official visits to Arkansas and Iowa over the next two weekends.
However, those plans could be subject to change. According to his recruiting profile on Rivals, several staff members have placed a future cast for Johnson to commit to Penn State. Richard O’Leary, Marty Leap, and Dylan Callaghan-Croley all placed their predictions on Sunday for the Nittany Lions to land Johnson. On3 lists Johnson as the No. 15 player in Ohio and a top-40 defensive back in the cycle.
Penn State’s lone 2025 defensive back
Currently, the Penn State football team has 13 hard commits in the 2025 recruiting class. They hold the No. 16 class in the country and the No. 4 recruiting class in the Big Ten according to On3.
The Nittany Lions actively have one defensive back committed in the 2025 cycle. Xxavier Thomas who attends Catholic Central in Pittsburgh, PA. A three-star player who ranks as the No. 19 player in Pennsylvania in his respective class.
If Penn State can land Josh Johnson after a successful official visit, it could be the tip of the iceberg in terms of recruiting over the next several weeks.
