Entering his junior season, Penn State football quarterback Drew Allar has a lot to prove in 2024. After failing to elevate his performance in games against Ohio State, Michigan, and Ole Miss last season, Allar has faced tough criticism from all over the college football world, even from the Nittany Lion faithful. But, with a new creative play caller and the numbers he put up in 2023, this 247Sports analyst believes Allar is a top 2 QB in the Big Ten.

Physically, Drew Allar is one of the most gifted quarterbacks in the country. Standing at 6-5 238 pounds, the former five-star prospect accounted for 2631 yards and threw for 25 touchdowns against 2 interceptions last season.

Recently, Cody Nagel of 247Sports released his ranking of the top quarterbacks in the Big Ten. Where he has Drew Allar at No. 2 in the conference after his strong sophomore season in 2023.

“Drew Allar looked like a top-tier quarterback in his first year as the starter at Penn State, at least when facing opponents not ranked inside the top-15 nationally. The difference in completion percentage was glaring, connecting on just 45.6% of his passes in the three losses to Michigan, Ohio State and Ole Miss.

“He completed 65.0% of his attempts in the other 10 games last season. Allar is not a quarterback to take risks with just two interceptions in 2023. The hiring of former Kansas offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki could help unlock a new level to his game in 2024.”

Veteran Dillon Gaberial sits atop of the Big Ten

A team that Penn State football will avoid in 2024 is the Oregon Ducks. Which might be a huge sigh of relief when the season comes to a close as the Ducks appear to be loading up for a huge season this fall. They will be led by former UCF and Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel who Nagel ranks as the No. 1 QB in the Big Ten.

“Dillon Gabriel is the perfect matchup with coordinator Will Stein and the Oregon offense. Similar to what the Ducks got out of former Auburn transfer Bo Nix in recent seasons, Gabriel expects to continue the offensive success in Eugene. He is among the most experienced quarterbacks in college football as he enters his sixth year.

“Gabriel ranks among the top 10 in NCAA history for total touchdowns (152), total yards (15,925), passing yards (14,865) and passing touchdowns (125). His 33-16 (.673) record as a starter is also noteworthy. Gabriel has the potential to be a Heisman Trophy finalist come December.”
