The Penn State football coaching staff expects to have Nicholas Singleton available when the Nittany Lions travel to West Lafayette to battle Purdue this weekend, James Franklin said on Wednesday night. The standout running back exited last Saturday’s game against Washington midway through the third quarter and did not return.

“Confident he’ll be ready to go,” Franklin told reporters during his midweek post-practice media scrum. “But as you guys know, medical decisions are out of my league. But, we’re confident that he’ll be ready to go.”

Nicholas Singleton had 59 all-purpose yards before he left Saturday night’s game. On Monday, Franklin described Singleton’s issue as “short-term.” However, the junior has been battling bumps and bruises for over a month.

Since missing the October 5 matchup against UCLA, Singleton has 422 all-purpose yards on 58 touches with two receiving touchdowns.

“I think you guys know, Nick’s had some things lingering on and off, kind of, throughout the year and has battled through them,” Franklin said on Monday.

Kaytron Allen has been carrying the workload in light of Singleton’s issues, with 80 carries for 345 yards and four scores over the last five games.

Coming off a dominant White Out win and a new No. 4 ranking in the College Football Playoff, Penn State football will face a 1-8 Purdue squad in Ross-Ade Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
