Ex-Penn State football WR narrows down transfer decision

The Penn State football team suffered a blow to its receiving core when KeAndre Lambert-Smith was not in attendance for the Blue-White Game. Many knew that would lead the Nittany Lion leading receiver from 2023 to enter the transfer portal. He made that official on April 15th and now, he is closing in on a decision for his next school. According to reports, Lambert-Smith is down to either Texas A&M or Auburn to play his college football in 2024.

KeAndre Lambert-Smith is considered the No. 1 receiver in the transfer portal according to On3. He was considered the No. 1 option for Drew Allar and the Penn State football team during the 2023 season. Lambert-Smith accounted for 673 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns last season.

He immediately drew interest from some of the top programs around the country including Georgia, Colorado, West Virginia, USC, Auburn, and Texas A&M. Over the past week he spent time at Auburn from last Thursday to Saturday and at Texas A&M from Saturday to Monday according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports. Reports from Zenitz also stated that Lambert-Smith would take a visit to USC this week, however, it seems that he has already decided that he wants to leave the Big Ten.

Now, a new report from Tuesday evening shows that those visits paid dividends as Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos of On3 have reported that Lambert-Smith has narrowed his college choices down to Auburn or Texas A&M. At the very least, it seems he will play his college football in the SEC for the 2024 season.

The Penn State football team has been fortunate during this spring transfer portal window. While some thought there would be a mass exodus of players that simply has not been the case. Since the transfer portal officially opened on April 16th, Penn State has lost two players KeAndre Lambert-Smith and wide receiver Malick Meiga.

Meiga a special teams captain was out of the rotation at wide receiver last season. He ended his Penn State career with 106 receiving yards and 1 touchdown reception. The transfer portal is open until May 1st, so there’s still time for the Nittany Lions to make a move to add more talent to its roster.
